Haiku Universal Mount Noise Troubleshooting
Noise issues and type of noise can vary. Below are some common checks.
1. With the fan not spinning and if you can physically get to the fan safely, try hand spinning the fan to see if you can reproduce the same noise. If so, see if you can tell where the noise is coming from and go through the below checks to see if you can correct. Sometimes, depending on the noise, the noise will only reproduce itself with the fan spinning but hand spinning is a good test.
2. When the fan is spinning, do you see movement or a wobble in the fan along with the noise? If so, stop here and see FAB on Wobble for Haiku Universal Mount fans.
3. Confirm your ceiling junction is a metal fan-rated junction box. Minimum 35 lb. No plastic junction boxes.
4. Confirm your junction box is securely fastened to the structure.
5. Make sure your mounting bracket is securely attached to the ceiling junction box.
6. Make sure the mounting ball is sitting securely in the rib of the mounting bracket AND confirm that the mounting ball assembly (ball, pin, wedge/screw) is correctly and securely attached to the end of the downtube. There should be no movement when trying to hand-turn the mounting ball on the end of the downtube.
7. Where the downtube meets the top of the motor post, make sure the bell-shaped wire cover is not resting on top of the motor cover. There should be a 1/4 gap between the bottom of the bell-shaped cover and the top of the motor unit.
8. Lift the bell-shaped cover up and confirm the wiring, safety cable, or ground cable coming down the downtube is not touching the motor cover flange or the actual motor unit down inside the flange around the motor post. Correct any slack as necessary to keep from touching these areas around the motor post.
9. Check to confirm your blades are properly installed and securely attached to the motor unit. There should be a smooth transition from one blade to another.
NOTE: Our fan blades are color-coded and match the motor unit's same color where the blades attach. See install manual as necessary. If installed incorrectly, the fan can wobble as the blade/motor colors match from the factory when balanced. See Haiku Universal Mount Wobble FAQ as necessary.
10. Confirm your trim cover on the bottom of the fan is installed correctly and is securely attached to the bottom of the motor unit.
11. If a Downlight LED light kit is installed, confirm it is securely attached to the fan and not making any contact with the blades/airfoils. If making contact with the blades/airfoils, confirm blades were installed correctly as previously mentioned.
12. If an Uplight light kit is installed, confirm it is securely installed above the motor post and securely attached to the downtube and not resting on top of the motor cover. See installation instructions as necessary.
NOTE: As mentioned previously, you may need to raise up the Uplight and confirm no wiring, safety cable, or ground cable coming down the downtube is touching the motor cover flange or the actual motor unit down inside the flange around the motor post. Correct any slack as necessary to keep from touching these areas around the motor post.
13. Application issues such as high humidity can cause the mounting ball to make an intermittent clicking noise inside the mounting bracket. If the fan is installed outdoors, wind can cause the fan to move, possibly causing noise-related issues.
