BAFCon doesn't control Essence

Your Essence is not responding to BAFCon and has no LED status? Follow these troubleshooting steps.

1. Turn the breaker to the fan OFF.

2. Verify that there is NOT a CAT5/6 cable plugged into the back of the BAFCon control. BAFCon communicates to the Essence on the 2-wire 0–10VDC output connector on the back of the BAFCon. If a CAT5/6 cable is plugged in, remove it. If 18/2 wiring is being used, check the 0–10VDC output with a voltmeter to ensure a voltage range is being issued by the BAFCon when the slider is moved. No output means the BAFCon needs to be replaced.

3. Connect an 18/2 2-wire cable to the 0–10VDC output terminal on the back of the BAFCon and run the 18/2 wire to the Essence fan.

4. At the end of the Essence gray low-voltage control cable, remove the CAT5/6 cable from the female RJ45 port.

5. Carefully disassemble the female RJ45 port connector to access the white wire (0–10VDC speed reference) and the black wire (common ground). Connect them to the 18/2 wire run, observing correct polarity for the BAFCon terminals. Cap the remaining wires from the female RJ45 port connector. Connect the yellow and blue wires that are outside of the female connector together, or to the BAF-provided PAM-SD fire relay if required.

6. Turn the breaker ON. BAFCon will search for any industrial fans. When it does not find them, it will present a setup 0–10V selection — choose Essence. Slide the controller to test the fan. A 30–45 second calibration period will take place before the fan spins up to the desired speed. The green status LED on the silver switch plate on the extension tube above the motor should be lit solid green, indicating the fan is operational.
