Fan is making a noise
Your Essence fan is making a noise during operation? Follow the troubleshooting steps below.
- Ticking/Tapping Noises when spinning
- Aluminum blades can make these noises while spinning if they flex a little. Verify blade bolts are tightened to 29 ft.lbs or 39.3 Nm. In some conditions slightly loosening or tightening may be necessary.
- Airflow will also cause the blades to flex. If there are any air vents or returns acting on the fan, close these or reposition the fan. If there are any large open doors, close these to see if the noise is eliminated.
- Constant Scraping/Rubbing Noise
- Remove the lower motor cover and look for obstructions. Spin by hand with the cover removed. If no obstructions are found and the sound is still heard, contact customer service.
- Buzzing Noise from Motor
- If the fan is installed in an environment that gets exceptionally hot, over 120 degrees, the internal fan inside the motor may kick on to cool it down, resulting in a buzzing noise. If it gets hotter, the fan will shut down with a 1-blink flash from the status LED. But the internal fan will remain on until the temperature is brought down below 120.
