My PFX-series fan didn’t shut down with a Fire Alarm Test
Are you needing your Powerfoil X, X2.0, X3.0 or X4 model fan to comply with NFPA regulations? X-series fans require a contact closure on alarm condition between VFD terminals “DCM” and “MI3” to shut down with an “external fault” status. A PAM-SD model relay is factory-installed in the Normally Open configuration on these terminals and requires 20-32vdc at 15mA to change state. Follow these troubleshooting steps.
1. Lockout and tag out the fan appropriately.
2. An electrical multi-meter capable of testing DC voltage and continuity should be used to verify the relay functionality.
3. The PAM relay could be temporarily replaced with a “jumper” wire to test the programmable fault response function of the MI3 input when re-energized.
4. The factory-included relay may be replaced with another type if required, such as a proprietary addressable relay, but it must be installed in the N.O. configuration.
5. Record the model and serial number information found on or inside the VFD enclosure (varies by model/series) and contact Customer Support.
