How do I get my Big Ass Fan to work automatically?
Haiku, i6, and es6 fans can work automatically by enabling Auto mode. The fan can be automated based on any combination of motion, temperature, and smart thermostat integrations. The light can be automated based on motion.
Out of the box, Auto mode is configured for both comfort and motion. However, you can configure your fan’s Auto mode settings for motion, comfort, or thermostat by using the app.
PAUSE AUTO FEATURES
You can pause Auto to temporarily disable all smart features (motion sensing, thermostat integration, etc.), but it will not erase any settings, giving you full manual control of your fan or light.
Bluetooth Remote
- Using the Bluetooth remote, press the AUTO button for your fan or light.
- The white LED will turn off when Auto is disabled.
Big Ass Fans App
- From the app’s Home screen, select the fan or light.
- Tap the AUTO button on the control screen (the text will turn gray when Auto is disabled).
RESUME AUTO FEATURES
You can enable all smart features (motion sensing, thermostat integration, etc.), at once by resuming Auto mode.

- Tap Motion Timeout, and then select how long the fan should stay on after motion is no longer detected.

CONFIGURE THE MOTION SENSOR FOR THE LIGHT
- In the Big Ass Fans app, from the home screen, select your light.
- Select the button in the lower right.
- Make sure the Light tab is selected at the top of the screen.
- Tap Light Auto, and then tap Motion.

- Select the button in the lower right.
- Make sure the Fan tab is selected at the top of the screen.
- Tap Fan Auto, and then tap Motion.

ENABLING AUTO COMFORT
Auto Comfort automatically adjusts the fan speed based on the temperature in your room. Just set your ideal temperature and let your fan do the rest.
Note: The temperature sensor is located inside the Bluetooth remote. Make sure the remote has power, is connected to your fan, and is located in the room with the fan when using Auto Comfort (so it can properly sense temperature).

- Select the button in the lower right.
- Make sure the Fan tab is selected at the top of the screen
- Tap Fan Auto, and then tap Comfort.
- Toggle Auto Comfort to enable it.
- Select your ideal temperature.
- This temperature reflects your ideal comfort level. When you enable Auto Comfort, your fan will analyze ambient temperature, adjusting its speed automatically to keep you comfortable.
- (Optional) Tap Min Speed and Max Speed to set your desired minimum and maximum fan speeds.
When Auto Comfort is active, the fan will run at your selected minimum speed whenever the room temperature is at or below your ideal temperature. The fan will not run above your selected maximum speed when the room temperature is above your ideal temperature.HEAT ASSIST
When the room temperature drops substantially below your ideal temperature, Heat Assist will enable your fan to gently push warm air down from the ceiling.
- From the Auto Comfort screen (with Auto Comfort enabled), toggle Heat Assist to enable it.
- Set the speed at which you would like the fan to spin during Heat Assist (the default is speed 1).
- (Optional) Set the fan to spin in the reverse direction.
ENABLING SMART THERMOSTAT INTEGRATION
Note: These instructions assume you have already linked your fan with a smart thermostat and enabled Thermostat Assist.
Thermostat Assist is a feature where your fan will help assist your thermostat in distributing air uniformly throughout your house.Ā When your thermostat calls for the blower (the HVAC system’s internal fan), your ceiling fan will gently assist in circulating the air, keeping things fresh, and taking a load off your HVAC system.
- From the Fan Auto screen, select Thermostat.
- Select Thermostat again, and ensure your thermostat is selected.
- Confirm that Thermostat Assist is enabled.
- Set your preferred option for Assist With to determine which modes the fan should assist your thermostat (heating, cooling, or both).
DISABLING SMART THERMOSTAT INTEGRATION
- From the Fan Auto screen, select Thermostat.
- Select Thermostat again, and set it to None.
I have a new router, or my wi-fi network name or password has changed, and now I canāt control my fan.
If your Wi-Fi SSID (network name) or password has changed, or if you have a new router, your fan won’t be able to communicate with your router. To get them working together again, try the following:
- Reset your fan’s settings using the instructions fromĀ Reset Fan Settings.
- Tap
Ā and then tap Add a Product. - Follow the on-screen prompts to connect your fan to the new Wi-Fi router.
Questions about the Remote
How do I pair my Bluetooth remote?
The Bluetooth remote, unlike our previous remotes, pair directly with the fan it will control. The pairing occurs on the remote, not the fan. Each remote will only pair with one fan, but one fan may have multiple remotes.
A bluetooth remote will pair to the fan with the strongest bluetooth signal, which is generally the closest fan.
Once you have installed your fan and applied power, you are ready to begin. If applicable, pull the plastic tab from the bottom of your remote, and now youāre ready to clear and pair it with your fan.
- To clear the remote, hold down both the fan and speed minus buttons until all of the LED indicator lights flash three times.
- Now press any button on the remote to begin the setup process.
- The scrolling LEDs indicate the remote is searching for a fan to pair to, so get close to the fan to ensure a strong signal.
- The fan will make a noise to indicate a successful pair.
- If your remote connected to another fan, clear the remote and try it again.
How do I disconnect a Bluetooth remote from my fan?
Note: The next time a button is pressed on the remote within range of a fan, it will automatically pair with that fan.
How do I reboot (power cycle) my fan using the remote
- Press and hold the fan power button on the remote for 5 seconds. After 5 seconds, the fan will beep and its LED indicator will illuminate.
- Press the fan power button again, then release. The fan will beep and reboot.
How do I replace the battery in my remote?
- PH00 Phillips head screwdriver
- CR2450 3v battery
- Your Bluetooth Remote
The battery tray is located on the back of the control at the bottom and secured by a small screw.
- Remove the back cover of the remote using your screwdriver.
- Pull down on the tab and set it to the side
- Remove the old battery and grab your new battery to install
- Place the new battery in, making sure the positive side is facing up.
- Reinstall the back cover and make sure the screw is tightened down firmly.

How do I reverse my fan?
Although we donāt recommend reversing your fan, it wonāt cause any problems.Ā If you enable reverse, you may just find there is not very much air movement.
To enable Reverse:
- In the Big Ass Fans app, tap a fan on the Home screen.
- Tap the settings icon in the lower right corner of the screen.
- Toggle Reverse to enable it.
My fan is noisy during operation.
- Check all hardware. If loose, tighten. If you are unsure of how to do this, refer to the fan installation guide.
- Bring the fan to a complete stop. Gently turn the airfoils by hand, making sure there are no fan parts rubbing on the motor unit when the fan rotates.
- If these steps do not work. Contact Technical Support here.
What type of ceiling outlet box should I use to hang my fan?
We recommend a standard UL-listed, fan-rated outlet box be used and installed onto a beam or joist. The outlet box should be marked acceptable for minimum fan support of:
70 lbs (31.8 kg) for any I6 fan
70 lbs (15.9 kg) for any ES6 fan
35 lbs (15.9 kg) for any Haiku fan
35 lbs (15.9 kg) for any Haiku L fan
35 lbs (15.9 kg) for any Mammoth fan
Most outlet boxes commonly used for hanging light fixtures are not rated for fan support and may need to be replaced.
The fan jerks upon startup.
