Big Ass Fans Marketing Team Wins ACE Award

AceAwardsBig Ass Fans® today announced it was named Marketing Team of the Year in the 2016 UBM Americas Annual Creativity in Electronics Awards. The awards program honors the people and companies behind the technologies and products that are changing the world of electronics.

The winners were announced at a ceremony on Dec. 7, at the San Jose Convention Center, during the Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley.

One creative campaign the judges considered was “Lumenoscopy,” which lampooned medical commercials while educating viewers about the benefits of lighting upgrades.

“We’re excited to honor this robust group for their dedication to their craft and efforts in bettering the industry for years to come” said Nina Brown, VP Events, UBM Americas. “The judging panel was given the difficult task of selecting winners from an incredibly talented group of finalists, and we’d like to thank all of those participants for their amazing work and also honor their achievements. These awards aim to shine a light on the best in today’s electronics realm, and this group is the perfect example of excellence within both an important and complex industry.”

A panel of EE Times and EDN editors narrowed the entries to three finalists in each category. Winners were selected by a panel of independent judges.

Big Ass Light Bar Launches on Indiegogo

Big Ass Light Bar

Big Ass Fans® is building the world’s toughest and brightest battery-powered LED work light and offering it first through Indiegogo.

The Big Ass Light Bar was built to uncompromising quality standards. Its durable design makes it ideal for hardworking Americans in the toughest, dirtiest jobs, such as mechanics, contractors, truckers, oil rig workers and first responders. Its ability to survive being doused and dropped also makes it the perfect work light for serious outdoor and auto enthusiasts.

Big Ass Light Bar’s features include:

  • Six distinct brightness settings, from 80 lumens to 5,000 lumens (more than any other battery-powered LED work light).
  • A 180-degree light angle, which allows Big Ass Light Bar to light entire rooms.
  • A high-capacity rechargeable battery that provides 1.5 hours of illumination at the brightest setting to 48 hours at the dimmest.
  • A durable body made from extruded aluminum, as well as high-quality polymers, resins and rubberized components, that make Big Ass Light Bar all but impervious to impact, dust, grime and chemicals.
  • An IP66 wet rating, which allows Big Ass Light Bar to be scrubbed and hosed down, or used in the rain.
  • A distinct octagonal shape that prevents Big Ass Light Bar from rolling away when dropped.

The Big Ass Light Bar was envisioned by a Big Ass Fans employee who worked as an auto mechanic for seven years before joining the company. With task lighting a constant source of problems in the shop, he worked with the company’s extensive engineering team to build a light that would meet the stringent needs of auto mechanics.

Big Ass Fans chose to bring the product to Indiegogo to gauge interest and solicit feedback from a broad audience. Funds raised through Indiegogo will be used to make any last-minute changes in product design and to jump-start production. Big Ass Light Bar is expected to be available early next year.

The Big Ass Light Bar will retail for $499 and include a battery, charger and carrying case. Early pre-orders and high-volume orders on Indiegogo will receive discounts ranging from 15 percent to 45 percent.

Fanny Announces Run for Presidency, Asks Supporters to Vote for the Ass

press-release-1

After weeks of urging from her supporters, Fanny is excited to announce her candidacy for president of the United States.

For Fanny, the last straw in her highly personal decision-making journey was the Sept. 26 debate between the two major party candidates. Like so many other viewers, she watched, but could not muster enthusiasm for either performer. She became convinced that something was missing.

Knowing that America is a nation hungry for authenticity, Fanny realized that her time is now. She’s heard people express opinions about the other candidates, and feels she represents a true alternative for Americans — a genuine ass. After receiving a quick “Godspeed” from her longtime boss at Big Ass Fans® in Kentucky, where she serves as mascot and faith healer, she is ready to hit the campaign trail running, on all fours.

As a donkey, Fanny’s credentials start and end with two words: hard worker. Fanny is for a strong America, with clean water to drink, fresh air to breathe and solid ground to graze on. She’s for good relations with America’s neighbors in both directions; in fact, because of her millions of relatives across the globe, she truly sees herself as a citizen of the world.

In the coming days and weeks, Americans will learn much more about Fanny and precisely where she stands on these and many other issues. She has already outlined the basic planks in her platform and her life story at her official campaign website, www.bigassfans.com/fanny.

Fanny urges everyone who feels alienated by the current campaign to show their support by adding the hashtag #Vote4theAss in their social media posts.

Haiku Integrates with ecobee Thermostats to lower energy costs

Haiku_I_Series_ecobee_Thermostat

Two leaders in home comfort and efficiency have partnered to tackle rising air conditioning expenses ahead of summer. Big Ass Fans’ Haiku® ceiling fan will now integrate with ecobee smart thermostats, saving customers up to 30 percent on home cooling costs.

Instead of using a single temperature reading from your thermostat (usually in a hallway) to keep your home comfortable, Haiku and ecobee use sensor technology to manage the comfort in individual rooms. Thermostats by ecobee incorporate wireless room sensors that measure temperature and occupancy, and Haiku ceiling fans feature built-in temperature, humidity and occupancy sensors to adjust fan speed automatically as conditions change.

Besides added convenience and comfort, the pairing of Haiku fans and ecobee can save big money this summer. The air movement created by Haiku can make you feel several degrees cooler than the actual temperature in a room, so you can raise the setpoint on your ecobee thermostat higher than normal, allowing you to save money and energy while staying just as comfortable.

Each degree you raise your thermostat saves you up to 6 percent on energy costs. If each home thermostat was raised just 6 degrees, we would reduce carbon emissions by 78 billion pounds, the equivalent of taking 3.2 million homes off the grid a year.

“ecobee and Big Ass Fans® share a commitment to smart home innovation and, most importantly, to delivering comfort to the rooms that matter most,” said Stuart Lombard, President and CEO of ecobee. “Through this integration, ecobee users can conveniently sync their devices with Haiku products to deliver maximum home comfort and energy efficiency. It’s a win-win for the consumer and the environment.”

This integration follows another smart home partnership both Big Ass Fans and ecobee unveiled this year. Recently, both companies announced that Amazon’s Alexa-enabled devices, including Echo, will allow voice control of Haiku fans and ecobee thermostats. The commands allow users to change their fan speed, fan lights and control home temperature through their thermostat, all hands-free.

If you use all these devices together, it’s as simple as saying, “Alexa, turn the thermostat up 2 degrees.” Technology takes care of the rest, seamlessly communicating with each device to make your request happen and your life that much more comfortable. These integrations are another way Big Ass Fans and ecobee continue to establish their place as leaders of the smart home ecosystem.

About ecobee

ecobee, Inc., based in Toronto, Canada, introduced the world’s first Wi-Fi connected smart thermostat in 2009 and is the No. 2 smart thermostat brand in North America. The company continues to innovate in the smart thermostat space and launched ecobee3 with room sensors in 2014. In 2015, the ecobee3 became the first Apple HomeKit-enabled smart thermostat, allowing users to control the device with Siri. In 2016, ecobee3 became the first Amazon Echo-enabled thermostat, allowing homeowners to control their ecobee via voice commands from Alexa-enabled devices.

ecobee’s award-winning thermostats have enabled hundreds of thousands of consumers and businesses to control their home or building comfort anytime and from anywhere, using their smartphones, tablets or computers.

Available to the public in April, these commands will allow users to turn connected ceiling fans on and off, change speeds and adjust light intensity, all hands-free. They will work with all Alexa-enabled devices, including Amazon Echo, Echo Dot and Amazon Tap.
