Do I need to install guy wires with my Powerfoil 6 fan?
Yes,Ā guy wires are required if:
- The extension tube isĀ 4 ft (1.2 m) or longer
- The fan is installedĀ outdoors
- The fan is nearĀ fixtures or exposed to high wind
- They are included in qualifying fan packages and are critical for stability and warranty compliance.
What kind of electrical circuit do I need for installation?
Each fan requires aĀ dedicated overcurrent-protected circuit:
- 20 A @ 200ā240 VAC, single-phase
- 15 A @ 200ā240 VAC, three-phase
- 10 A @ 400ā480 VAC, three-phase
Refer to NEC Article 430 and local codes for conductor sizing and protection requirements.
Can I mount Powerfoil 6 to any beam or structure?
Powerfoil 6 can be mounted to:
- I-beams (with restrictions)
- Bar joists (with angle iron)
- Solid beams and Z-purlins (with special kits)
However,Ā fabricated I-beamsĀ andĀ strut channels (Unistrut)Ā are not recommended unless approved by a structural engineer.
How do I maintain my Powerfoil 6 fan?
Big Ass Fans recommends:
- AnĀ annual inspectionĀ of hardware, guy wires, and safety cables
- Checking forĀ oil leaks, cracks, or corrosion
- Ensuring properĀ torqueĀ on bolts and fasteners
- Cleaning withĀ non-chlorine-based degreasers

What should I do if my fan doesnāt start after installation?
- Check allĀ power and control wiringĀ for secure connections
- Ensure the circuit is providing the correctĀ voltage and amperage
